Flamenco Agency is pleased to announce its third participation in the Opera Aperta Festival, an international event taking place from June 21 to 28 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
As part of this edition, the company will perform on June 22 at the historic Opera Națională Română Cluj-Napoca, presenting Granada Flamenco Ballet with “Dance For Me” .
In parallel with its participation in Opera Aperta, Flamenco Agency will undertake a Romanian tour, including an appearance at the Sibiu International Theatre Festival with two different productions, “Carmen” and “Dance for Me”, and involvement in the Sibiu International Performing Arts Market. In addition to the mentioned show, Dance for Me, we will also perform “Carmen”. These engagements collectively articulate a transnational circulation of flamenco as both a musical and choreographic practice within diverse curatorial contexts, that allows us to meet our own goals promoting flamenco worldwide and also stay longer offering workshops.
This tour further reflects a strategic commitment to sustainability, optimizing international mobility through clustered engagements within a single geographic region. Such an approach not only enhances the visibility of the artists but also fosters inter-institutional collaboration, enabling shared logistical resources and more efficient touring models, splitting the cost of the flights.
The Opera Aperta Festival is hosted by the Opera Națională Română Cluj-Napoca, an institution founded in 1919 alongside the National Theatre and the Music Conservatory. As a historic locus of operatic and musical production, it has played a central role in shaping Romania’s cultural landscape and continues to serve as a platform for both canonical repertoire and innovative performance practices.
Participation in this festival represents a significant artistic recognition for Flamenco Agency. Central to its mission is the positioning of flamenco within the broader sphere of high art performance, emphasizing its structural sophistication and its capacity to engage in dialogue with established Western art music traditions. In previous editions, the company has shared programming contexts with works by Giacomo Puccini, underscoring flamenco’s adaptability and resonance within operatic environments.
