In the heart of Romania, the picturesque city of Sibiu is set to host a grand celebration of performing arts through the convergence of two significant events – the Sibiu International Theatre Festival (FITS) and the Sibiu Performing Arts Market (SIPAM). This unique amalgamation promises an unforgettable experience for both artists and enthusiasts alike, scheduled to unfold between June 21 and June 30.
The Sibiu International Theatre Festival, now in its 31st edition and with the theme “Friendship”, stands tall as one of the most prominent art festivals globally, maybe the 3rd largest Festival in Europe. Recognising its outstanding contribution to the world of performing arts, the International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA) recently honoured FITS with the prestigious Angel Award. This accolade is a testament to the festival’s three decades of commitment to artistic excellence and cultural enrichment.
Running concurrently with the festival, the Sibiu Performing Arts Market (SIPAM) will span four days, from June 24 to June 27. SIPAM serves as a dynamic networking hub within the larger festival, providing a platform for performing arts professionals and artists to engage in a series of conferences, presentations, workshops, and speed-dating events. This immersive experience is designed to foster collaboration, ignite creativity, and pave the way for future projects that transcend boundaries.
As part of this extraordinary celebration, a line-up of captivating performances awaits the audience. Our renowned flamenco artist Rafaela Carrasco, recently honoured with the National Dance Award for the year 2023, will grace the festival with her mesmerising show, “Nocturna” on June 23 & 24. Carrasco’s unique blend of traditional and contemporary flamenco promises to captivate audiences and leave an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of Sibiu: https://sibfest.ro/en/homepage-127/events/nocturna–architecture-of-insomnia
Adding to the cultural richness, the Barcelona Flamenco Ballet will take the stage with the pre-première of “Carmen” on June 25 & 26. BFB embodies a new approach to flamenco, preserving its traditional roots while encompassing different styles of dance and music. This iconic piece, set to tour Romania during the festival, promises a flamenco-infused interpretation of the classic tale, offering a feast for the senses: https://www.sibfest.ro/en/homepage-127/events/carmen
Venturing into the streets of Sibiu, our company “Hispano” will bring a dynamic street performance that challenges conventional boundaries. We will present a musical spectacle that blends the mysticism of Hispanic classical music with the strength and rhythm of flamenco. Going beyond conventional performances, our innovative street theatre approach promises to engage the audience and create memorable moments of artistic connection in the vibrant atmosphere of the festival. We will perform indoor in churches https://sibfest.ro/en/homepage-127/events/spanish-route and also outdoor in the Habermann square main stage: https://sibfest.ro/en/homepage-127/events/pe-ritmuri-de-flamenco
In essence, SIPAM and the Sibiu International Theatre Festival will present a unique opportunity for artists, professionals and audiences to converge in celebration of the performing arts.
Join us in Sibiu to celebrate the 31st edition of the festival with the finest Flamenco! However, if you are not in Romania for the occasion, please, note that these performances will be also available online!
We are happy to bring the Flamenco highlights of this impressive Festival!
P.S. To make our tour more sustainable, the same road manager will be in Sibiu from June 22-26 for the 3 companies and we will also perform “Carmen” by Barcelona Flamenco Ballet on June 27 & 28 in Cluj-Napoca! We like to stay for longer, to travel more sustainable while increasing our artists visibility!
