Royal Symphonic Orchestra of Seville
The Royal Symphonic Orchestra of Seville, supported by the Government of the South of Spain and the City Hall of Seville, made its debut in 1991 and has become a reference in Andalucía and Spain, having achieved a prominent position in the national and international symphonic panorama. In 1995, King Juan Carlos I granted the Orchestra with the Royal rank.
Pedro Halffter is its the current Artistic Director, with previous Directors being Vjekoslav Šutej (from its conception up until 1996), Klaus Weise (1997 — 2000) and Alain Lombard (2001 — 2003).
The symphonic activity is focused on Spanish music – pieces by De Falla, Albeniz, Turina, Castillo, Zarzuela and many more. The Orchestra recover works which are not usually performed, such as original film soundtracks, and also traditional, contemporary and opera repertoires. The Orchestra participates in institutional events, in addition to national and international tours, radio and television recordings, and especially with composers’ music based in Andalucía, or that which linked to the area with its traditional and popular character.
