2022 has been an incredible year for the performing arts, especially for Flamenco Agency. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, we were all keen to, once again, start enjoying performing arts with friends and family, and we have had a great year making this possible in so many countries, venues and festivals.
This year, we have performed a range of incredible shows. In June we were lucky enough to bring Carmen to the 64th edition of the ‘Smetana Litomyšl’, one of the oldest festivals in the Czech Republic, with the support of Acción Cultural Española (Click here to see some of their promotional videos).
We then performed the international première of one of our most exciting shows Flamenco Machine Project at ‘Sibiu International Theatre Festival’ in June, also in collaboration with Acción Cultural Española. Check out some videos here and read its dossier here.
Barcelona Flamenco Ballet toured worldwide. Starting off in June in Kosovo at the feminist event ‘FemArt Festival’, then at the classical operistic festival ‘Opera Aperta’ at the main square of Cluj-Napoca in front of 3,000 people, organized by the Cluj-Napoca Romanian National Opera, in July. They then travelled to Italy with successful performances at the ‘Festival delle Nazioni’ in Città di Castello and ‘Sete Sóis Sete Luas’ in Pontedera.
Another prestigious performance was at the roman amphitheater of Ohrid for the 62nd ‘Ohrid Summer Festival’ in North Macedonia, performing at the anniversary of the festival on the 4th of August with the presence and collaboration of the Spanish Ambassador in front of 5,000 people. This festival is a proud member of the European Festivals Association.
In September Barcelona Flamenco Ballet toured Denmark with performances in Aalborg and Copenhagen, opening the first edition of the ‘Nordjyllands Internationale Dansefestival’, where we were lucky enough to be accompanied by the Spanish Ambassador in Copenhagen with a full house! We also offered our workshops to their dance community.
Asia was the next stop in the tour where Barcelona Flamenco Ballet travelled all the way to South Korea to perform at the ‘Jeonju Int’l Sori Festival’ with an extraordinary performance at Yeonji Hall of Sori Arts Centre, again, thanks to the greatly appreciated support of Acción Cultural Española.
To finish off an incredibly successful year we travelled to Poland, opening the 11th edition of the contemporary dance festival ‘Open Stage’ in Tarnów. We also were highly applauded at another contemporary sold out event, the 5th edition of ‘Infinite Dance Festival’ in Oradea, Romania.
Lastly, our final performance in December was in Latvia to perform the world première of Dance for Me by Granada Flamenco Ballet at Cēsis Concert Hall. We travelled with 10 dancers, 5 musicians and 3 technicians.
Flamenco Agency has brought this powerful artform to several events in unique spaces from the Real Casino de Madrid or La Llotja de Barcelona to some of the most exclusive villas in Marbella. We have carried out experiences in some of the most traditional venues in Seville, for example, our breath-taking equestrian flamenco.
Subsequently, we have performed for clients such as Cartier, influencers for Dior, the owners of Heineken and in the most exclusive golf club in Europe, La Zagaleta de Marbella; plus all kinds of congresses, where we also performed for the Mayor of Seville.
Conferences are a very important part in our goal to promote flamenco at an international level. Throughout the year, you could have found us at:
To finish the year, we are also exploring how Flamenco Agency can be more environmentally friendly with several consultants and attending conferences, receiving all kinds of recommendations. We are exploring new ways and practices to make our dance tours more sustainable. Therefore, we will start 2023 by attending ISPA in NYC, as usual, and also participating in an artistic residency in Cape Verde, Africa.
